What this is
Application Security & Secure Coding teaches developers how attackers exploit common weaknesses — injection, broken authentication, cross-site scripting, insecure dependencies and more — and the coding practices that prevent them. You will also learn threat modelling and how to fit security testing into your normal development workflow.
It assumes you can already read and write code in at least one language. It awards no certification, cannot guarantee your applications will be free of vulnerabilities and does not promise a security role.
What you will be able to do
- Explain the most common web application vulnerability classes
- Prevent injection and cross-site scripting with safe coding patterns
- Handle authentication, sessions and secrets securely
- Run a simple threat model for a new feature
- Add dependency scanning and security tests to your workflow
