What this is
Natural Language Processing Essentials walks through the core ideas behind text analytics and language models: cleaning and tokenising text, representing words as numbers, classic classification methods, embeddings and the transformer architecture behind today’s large language models. Each module pairs a concept with a small, hands-on Python exercise.
It assumes some basic Python and is not an advanced research course. It will not make you an NLP specialist on its own, and it makes no promise about the accuracy any model will achieve on your data.
What you will be able to do
- Clean, tokenise and normalise raw text for analysis
- Explain bag-of-words, TF-IDF and embedding representations
- Build and evaluate a simple text classifier
- Describe how transformer models and attention work at a conceptual level
- Use a pre-trained model for tasks such as summarisation or sentiment analysis
