What this is

Site Reliability Engineering Basics introduces the practices popularised by large engineering organisations and adapted by teams of every size: defining service level objectives, using error budgets, building useful monitoring and alerts, running calm incident response, writing blameless reviews and automating repetitive work.

It is an introduction to practices and ways of working, not a guarantee that your systems will meet any uptime target. It awards no certification and does not promise an SRE role.

What you will be able to do

  • Define SLIs and SLOs that reflect what users experience
  • Use error budgets to balance reliability and new features
  • Design monitoring and alerts that are actionable
  • Run an incident and write a blameless post-incident review
  • Identify toil and plan automation to reduce it
